Charity Cyber Essentials awareness month: strengthening cybersecurity for charities

Charity Cyber Essentials awareness month: strengthening cybersecurity for charities

This October, InfoShelter is excited to join forces with IASME and the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) to raise awareness of the critical importance of cybersecurity for charities. As we navigate the digital age, it’s essential for our charities to protect their sensitive data and operations from evolving cyber threats.

Charities often assume they are less likely to be targeted by cybercriminals, but this is a dangerous misconception. Cyber threats are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and charities, which handle sensitive donor information and financial data, are prime targets for cyberattacks. A successful cyberattack can lead to data breaches, financial loss, and significant reputational damage.

Charity Cyber Essentials Awareness Month is a campaign dedicated to educating charities about the cyber threats they face and the steps they can take to protect themselves. Throughout October, IASME, is collaborating with participating Certification Bodies including InfoShelter, to offer free resources, guidance, and Cyber Essentials certifications at a discounted rate to help charities enhance their cybersecurity measures.

Cyber Essentials is a UK government-backed certification scheme designed to help organizations protect themselves against the most common cyber threats. By achieving Cyber Essentials certification, charities can:

  • Protect Sensitive Data: Implementing basic cybersecurity measures helps safeguard donor information and financial data.
  • Enhance Reputation: Demonstrating a commitment to cybersecurity can boost trust among donors and stakeholders.
  • Reduce Risk: Cyber Essentials provides a clear framework of security controls that significantly reduce the risk of a cyberattack.

  • Apply for Certification: Charities can apply for Cyber Essentials certification during October to receive a discount. Ensure you provide your registered charity number to your chosen Certification Body. You can contact us by filling out our Cyber Essentials Contact Form.
  • Utilise Free Resources: Take advantage of the Cyber Essentials Readiness Tool and Knowledge Hub, which offer tailored guidance and action plans to help you on your cybersecurity journey.
  • Spread the Word: Become a supporter of the campaign by promoting the discount and resources to other charities through your networks.

  • Campaign Duration: October 1st – 31st, 2024
  • Certification Application Deadline: October 31st, 2024, by 5 PM
  • Assessment Completion Deadline: April 30th, 2025

By participating in Charity Cyber Essentials Awareness Month, your charity can take proactive steps to strengthen its cybersecurity posture. Together, we can create a safer digital environment for all charities, ensuring they can continue their vital work without the threat of cyberattacks.
